Adding Javascript Inside A Page

I have a client that wants a world population counter on her website. I have the working JS code running on the site in question outside of WordPress to show it’s working code.

I also have it inside of WordPress using methods I read from this site http://lorelle.wordpress.com/2005/09/16/using-javascript-in-wordpress/ and haven’t had success.
