  • When I first started using WP I didn’t have any problems loading images from my documents. Now when I go to upload an image this is what I get on my screen:

    Unable to create directory /home/wboyd58/public_html/ Is its parent directory writable by the server?

    I have no idea what this means or how to correct it so that I can continue to upload images to my blogs. Can anyone help me?

  • The $1M question is there:
    Is its parent directory writable by the server?
    parent = /wp-content/ dir

    Hi moshu,
    Thanks for the advice, however I don’t understand what your answer means?
    Everything was going fine as far as uploading images onto my blogs. Then one morning I went to upload some images and I got the above message. Nothing had been changed so why did it stop letting me upload my images?
    Would you mind to explain further what you are talking about. I am really computer challenged.

    Seemingly the permissions (and the Codex page I linked to explains what those are…) have been changed on your directories.
    Did you check them?

    Sometimes hosts perform upgrades, changes on their hardware and software and those, usually, come with changes in the settings on their machines. Yes, they often do it without telling you…

    So, I’ve read the error message you quoted above, and told you what is the relevant part of it: the parent directory (=wp-content) is not writable.

    Click on the documentation linked above, read it, and proceed.
