Support » Fixing WordPress » Adding Images – can only use media upload now?

  • In previous versions of WordPress, I was able to upload images via my FTP using an icon from the list on the top (where you can change font sizes, format the post etc…) OR from the add media list (top right hand corner). As of 2.6, it seems that I can only add images from the choice of icons on the top right hand corner. Is this a 2.6 change?

Also, I can’t seem to add images to the correct location without doing an extra step. All images added seem to be on top of a post, which means I have to manually move it to the correct place. This wasn’t an issue with the old system.

Yes, this is a 2.6 change. However, that first screen of the uploader allows you to put in a URL and such and insert the img tag directly to the post, without uploading it to your site. It has the same functionality there as the old image button did. The extra image button was confusing to many users, which is why it was dropped.

I don’t understand what you mean by “on top of a post”.

RE: On top of a post –

Say I want an image on the right hand side of the second paragraph. For some reason, the image uploader won’t let me do this. The image always ends up above the entire post. This means that I have to cut the image and paste it in the appropriate part of the body. Maybe I’m doing something wrong? I did click the button indicating that I want the picture to the right of the paragraph (for example).

Hmm.. I dunno, when I insert an image like that, it puts it at the position of the cursor in the dialog box.

It’s possible that you have your browser security settings turned up too high, and that’s preventing the image frame from talking to the editor frame.

I am getting the exact same thing. None of the formatting I have specified works, and the image just sits on top of the paragraph I was trying to insert it into.
