 * First off, what kind of file is it?
 * Secondly, what program should I make it in?
 * Thanks
 * Joe

 * It’s a file which the server uses. (How it does it is way complex.)
 * Notepad. Open Notepad, press Spacebar, save file as ‘htaccess.txt’, upload that
   to the main blog directory.
    rename it to .htaccess then change it’s permissions
   to 666
 * Ask if needed 🙂

 * Ok thank you, I have half the problem solved. I don’t know how to rename the
   file, however. I try to change it to .htaccess, but it won’t allow me to do it.
   I was able to change the permission (I think) by using filezilla, but still,
   no luck.
 * I use Yahoo as my web server (in case that matters).
 * Thanks

 * In Filezilla, right-clicking a file on the server should let you rename it –
   odd that it won’t let you…
 * You can’t change it with Notepad on your computer.

 * This is the message I get:
 * Command: RNTO /chdown/.htaccess.txt
    Response: 550 Permission denied on server.
   You are restricted to your account.

 * hmm….. someone more knowledgeable than me may have the answer to that, but the
   file there is not now being used – it’s neither a txt or a htaccess
 * The end name on the server must be
    `.htaccess` Nothing else. No ending like
   on normal files.
 * Try doing another?

 * No luck, anyone have any ideas?

 * When you save the .htaccess file in Notepad, make sure you select “All Files”
   instead of “Text Files.” You’re experiencing a problem with the .htaccess file,
   b/c it’s not named .htaccess. Instead, you’ve named it “.htaccess.txt” Get rid
   of the .txt extension and your problem will be solved.
