# Adding Google Analytics To header.php

    If i am copying the code from google analytics into the header.php file
   is there any other information that I need to add?
 * All that was there is
 *     ```
       <?php
       /* empty */
       ```
   
 * Do I copy the Tracking Code from google analytics and paste it below the empty
   line?

 * Sorry for the delay. I’m not really sure where to add that. Do you have any links
   to relevant articles so I can read about what you’re trying to accomplish?
 * Also, just so you know, the premium version of the theme has a menu option where
   you can place your Analytics code.

    Sorry I was out the last week with the birth of my first child.
 * You can’t/shouldn’t add anything to the header.php file. It won’t work anyway.
 * If you need to add a script I recommend you use a plugin like this: [https://wordpress.org/plugins/header-and-footer-scripts/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/header-and-footer-scripts/)
 * Or a plugin specific for google analytics
 * If you feel you must edit a file I strongly encourage you to use a child theme.
   You would need to edit the templates/head.php file.
