• Hi all,

I’m trying to add Google Analytics to my site but it won’t detect the tracking code. I’ve pasted the code into the <head> HTML like it tells me to, but the tracking status in google still says “tracking not installed”.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Cheers

  • Put it in footer.php right before </body>

Also make sure that you insert your account number in that code as well, so that Google can tell that the site is linked to it.
If you still can’t figure out, please share the GA code you are using.

    Hi, thanks for the replies.

Now I’m confused. Yesterday when the account status was saying “Tracking not installed” I deleted the code from the site. Now when I logged into Analytics tonight the status had changed to “receiving data”. How is that possible if I deleted the code? I’ve now pasted the code into the footer.php but I’m not sure whether to believe if its working or not.
I think I’ll leave the code in the site ans check again tomorrow to see what the stats show

    Thanks

    HI Todd,

If I were you, I would paste the code back in the header.php right before the closing </head> tag. Google changed a few things a while back and it prefers the code to be in the header. I would stick it in there and then wait a day. The bots sometimes need a bit of time to travel and do their thing.
