    Hi Laura,

Great, thanks for checking it out so soon. Glad you like it already!

Right now it is indeed not possible to add a first name box. I am still considering whether I should add that to the plugin since the intention of the top bar is to give your visitors a super quick way to subscribe to your list from any page.

Adding a “first name” field will double the amount of info required from your visitors and will somewhat decrease the number of people actually subscribing. What do you think?

Would it be an option to make the first name field an optional field for now? You can do so by logging into your MailChimp account and unchecking the “Required?” checkbox there.

Let me know! Super open for any suggestions you have. 🙂

    Hi Danny,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly 🙂

I totally agree with your points. However I’m not sure that the sole purpose of a top bar is to give super quick access, but can also be used as an immediate and constant CTA – it really depends on the sites audience. Although having a first name available may reduce numbers of people signing up, I feel it would reduce the quality of interaction between me and subscribers in the long run… sending an email with “Hi hello@myemail.com!” is a little less personal then sending one with “Hi Danny!”. Just food for thought 🙂

For now I’ll make it optional though, because I really like having the top bar.

I just had an idea for a suggestion… is it possible to make it “sticky” so that it doesn’t disappear as you scroll down the page?

    Thanks again!

Haha now to build my list…

    Hi Danny,
I agree with Laura, it would be nice to have a first name field. You could make it optional and leave it up to us if we want to risk fewer subs by asking for extra info. I also like the sticky idea.

I have one other request: I’d like to be able to change the font to match my website. I can’t see anyway to do that (unless I’m missing something).

This was an excellent addition, thanks!

    Hi Laura and Mike,

Good points, I just added it to the roadmap of the plugin. Hope I can get around to it in the next week. 🙂

The “sticky’ option is something I thought about as well, that one will be in next weeks release.

Thanks for thinking along! Really appreciate it. Now should you have a minute to spare, a plugin review here on WordPress.org would make me very happy. Of course you can wait with it until I get around to adding the “first name” field. 😉

@mike, the bar doesn’t set a font so it should pick up from your theme. However, it could be that your theme styles only applies a font to children of a certain element. Do you have an URL for me?

In any case, you can set the font for the bar by adding some custom CSS to your theme. An easy way to do that is by using the Simple Custom CSS plugin.

Something like the following will change the font.

    #mailchimp-top-bar { font-family: Arial, sans-serif; }

Hope that helps. If not, let me know!

Thanks for the CSS tip! I’m glad to hear you’re adding first name and sticky features. Please make them optional though so we can toggle them on/off if we want to.

You were absolutely correct about the font change, thanks.

One more suggestion, I know the whole point is to make the bar impossible to miss, but it would be nice to be able to adjust it’s height. I think using a contrasting colour makes it obvious enough, so being able to dial back the size if you want would be great.

Hi Danny, thanks for your handy Mailchimp for WP-plugin,
and I was happy to discover this great add-on!
Just installed the add-on, but… I also disabled the topbar for now, because I like to use First Name to personalize my newsletters.
Hope you find the time soon to add a FirstName field.
Anyway, thanks for your great work!

    Hi, Danny,

I love the plugin–thanks! I’d like to add my name to the list of people requesting options for first name, and last name too. That way, I can configure the bar in the way that works best for my clients’ needs.

I also have another request. It would be great if we could position the bar in another area, e.g., below the main slider area where it’s more noticeable than on the top of the page, where the search function gets hidden in a particular theme I’m working with (Jupiter).

Thanks for being open to suggestions and for making such a great product.

    Best wishes,
    Dawn

    Hi Danny,

I would also love to use the First Name to personalize my newsletters.

Can we add the first name now?

Thank you for this great plugin, I will keep it disable until I can add the first name.

    Take care,
    CC

    Hello Everyone,

We apologize for the long delay in replying. We have finally discussed this and hopefully would be release an update soon. However it would not be possible to give an exact time at the moment.

I just wish to join the choir singing for the option of adding a first name box in the bar – that would be awesome! 🙂

But that said, I want to thank you for an awesome plugin – it’s so easy to implement and use! 🙂

    Kind regards,
    EG

    Hey EarthlingGirl,

Thank you for your kind words. Due to the complexity of the extra field (additional field will reduce space for message and would have to be tested on mobile device) it would take a while before we work on this and release an update.
