Support » Plugins » Hacks » Adding Custom Function

  • Hi,
I know WordPress has the kitchen sink which allows users to easily add “functions” within their post, such as a masked URL, or bold letters etc and I know a few plugins add their own custom buttons within that area.

What I wanted to know is, how would I go about adding a simple button in there myself? Basically I want to add a button to cite sources. I have a style already, but don’t like manually posting it each time, plus I’d like to make it more convenient for my authors.

Basically, I want it when a person clicks the “CITE” button, it opens up a box that asks you to enter “NAME” and “URL” and automatically inserts it into the post in this format:

    <h5><b>Article Source:</b> <a href="link goes here">Name goes here</a></h5>

    Any ideas?
