Adding buttons to the sidebar

  • I am trying to add stuff (like buttons) to the sidebar of my site: http://eternalhearts.net I opened the ‘Sidebar’ file in ‘ETheme Editor,’ but can’t quite figure out where to put the code for my extra content. Am I even trying to edit the correct file?

  • You are trying the correct file – although I would suggest to edit ANY file on your computer, after making a clean backup copy… just in case.
Be aware the online editor doesn’t have UNDO button!

And in WP lingo that’s not “content” (content is your posts).
Since we don’t know where do you want to add your buttons… we reallly cannot say where to put them.

P.S. Edited your title to reflect the real question

Thank you for the lingo clarification as well as the reminder to not mess with original templates–it’s been a while since I did anything with code! I’m trying to add the buttons to the META section, if that helps at all.

Just open the sidebar.php file in a plain text editor and find the Meta section. Add anything you wish in the usual manner, using basic HTML code.

    <a href="http://example.com"><img src="http://example.com/images/mybutton.jpg" alt="my button" /></a>

    That’s it.
