Trying to find a way to do this. It seems like someone must have done this before?

Try the Advanced TinyMCE plugin – http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tinymce-advanced/
I think that it will allow you to add the missing icon.
I find it strange that WordPress provides a button for <!–more–> but not <!–next page–>
I don’t understand the logic behind this
It might just be Tiny MCE’s fault. TinyMCE is a tool that’s incorporated in WordPress and perhaps these are simply the default… I’m sure as well that if we were to look at the numbers, more people use <!–more–> than <!–next page–>.
Christine- i hear ya… this is interesting: http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/15952
That is interesting. Thanks for pointing that out.
