Support » Installing WordPress » Adding BuddyPress to existing PHP site

  • Very basic (and painfully clueless) question, but would appreciate any insight…

We have had a site built for a clothing company, which includes an e-commerce section as well as a WordPress blog, which serves as “news.”

We now want to add BuddyPress so that we can build a “community” section where people can maintain profiles, submit t-shirt designs and participate in general forums. Can this be added in, or does the entire site need to be structured on it from the start? Thanks!

  • You can add it to your site without changing the rest of it, so if you don’t like it, no harm done! It’s been awhile since I’ve used it, and even back then it worked pretty well – not the most features, but nice, small, and integrates well with WP.

Thanks for the post. So you can integrate even if the main site itself was not built in WP? A feed of sorts?

That’s a completely different question. But I believe you can also use BP stand-alone without WP. And if BP offers RSS feeds, you could certainly stick a link to that into any system. Read the docs for more info.
