I have just started using wordpress today to create my blog. I basically want a homepage that contains my latest posts (newest first) which it does automatically. I also want a menu at the top of the homepage (and all other pages) that lists categories. I then want to be able to save my posts to these pages e.g. if I publish a post about what I made my toddler for lunch I want it to appear on the home page but also on the page named cooking.

I have created a menu with my categories which links to the pages I have created but can’t see anywhere when I publish a blog post to publish it on the relevant page.

    Hope that makes sense!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • You are on the right track but if you want your posts to display on the pages you created, you will need to research other plugins OR get your hands dirty with code..

With that said, the best and probably easiest thing for you to do is to delete all of those pages you created, you will not need them (except for your home page). Now go to your menu and remove all of the pages there as well – and start adding the “Categories” you created to the menu INSTEAD of the pages. This will create the same menu you had previously, but with the category pages instead of blank pages.

    Hope this helps.

Hi, thanks so much for your help. I have deleted the pages and menu items. Created categories instead and added these to the menu. I created some sample posts and assigned these to categories to test it but for some reason though when I preview the site and click on the menu items it leads to a blank page on every category.

I’ve just changed my theme and it works! Now I just need to find a theme I like as much as the last one that allows me to view my categories. Thanks again Sammy
