Support » Theme: Pictorico » adding a link to content slider

    Hi,
On the destinations page, I had created a custom menu to call/link specific posts; ie. posts with europe tag and so on. Next to it is a content slider with just pics running and I want to do the same callout when it’s clicked. If i refer to it with the html id&class info, could I do that?
Also, when the link of custom menu doesn’t contain anything, there’s a standard “nothing found” message with a search box appearing underneath. I want to change the message as it’s misleading people and thought as an error, and lose that search box as I already have one at the footer cause in that case the page has two search boxes.
    Thank you.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Let me rephrase the above if there’s any misleading. Better have said category instead of tag I guess. I had used a custom menu widget and added the appropriate category to that menu on the destinations page. Any idea how I can replicate it to pictures besides them?

    Hi,
    Anybody on these two issues?

    1) Can a content slider behave like a callout (and goto http://imonlyhappywhenitravel.com/europe) when it’s clicked with some extra code or modules?
    2) http://imonlyhappywhenitravel.com/europe is not a page to be edited but a category and when there’s no post on the category I want to have my own message appearing rather than a nothing found that looks like an error.
    Thanks.

Hi there – @imonlyhappywhenitravel. Let’s look at your two questions separately:

On the destinations page, I had created a custom menu to call/link specific posts; ie. posts with europe tag and so on. Next to it is a content slider with just pics running and I want to do the same callout when it’s clicked. If i refer to it with the html id&class info, could I do that?

    1) Can a content slider behave like a callout (and goto http://imonlyhappywhenitravel.com/europe) when it’s clicked with some extra code or modules?

That depends on how you made those image sliders, as the functionality I’m seeing isn’t included with Pictorico. Did you use a plugin to create those? If so, I would suggest asking the plugin developer whether there’s an option to add a link from each image.

    2) http://imonlyhappywhenitravel.com/europe is not a page to be edited but a category and when there’s no post on the category I want to have my own message appearing rather than a nothing found that looks like an error.
    Thanks.

There are a couple of ways you could add a custom “no posts found” message.

Since you’re already running a child theme, one simple one is to add a custom 404.php file to your child theme. Place a copy of the parent theme’s 404.php file into your child theme. Then modify this text in your child theme’s copy:

It looks like nothing was found at this location. Maybe try a search?

Thank you for the replies Kathryn!
    1) I am not sure if it’s an additional module I used. It’s an advanced module of page builder of Beaver Builder which I believe was default with the theme. The callout module is capable of havin a link address but it can only have 1 pivture. Here’s a snapshot:

Shall I get in touch with them then?
    2) Great, will check 404.php. I also need to get rid of the search box as I already have one on the footer. I will see if I can edit 404.php for that too.

Beaver Builder (or any other site builder tool) is not included with Pictorico – it’s a separate plugin.

Shall I get in touch with them then?

    Yep!

And good luck with your 404 updates!

    Getting in touch with’em.

In pictorico’s case, it was content-none.php. Done, thank you 🙂

Just so anyone who reads this know, I got in touch with the beaver team and resolved it. The slider itself doesn’t have any option for a link but rather each slide does. So when you repeat the action -choose something other than “none” in the slide’s content layout and a callout action section appears where you can enter a link address – for each slide there you have it.

That’s great, thanks for sharing your solution in case it helps others – glad you’re all set.
