    Hello,

I have a lot of experience using wordpress.com. A friend is setting up a new wordpress.org site and would like my help with it. He has added me as an administrator on the site. Do I need to install wordpress 3.x in order to work on his site?

Not unless you are using it on your local computer. Where does he have it hosted or is it on his local computer.

Yes, I will be using it on my local computer. Not sure where he has it hosted.

If I install WP 3.5 and use his ftp and database info will I be able to do it that way?

You will only be able to work on a copy of it -- and doing so will require that you copy it from his server. Then to make the changes on his site, you'll have to copy those files and any database changes back to his server version. If that's what you want to do, these should be helpful:

Thanks WPyogi. Yes, I have been asked to collaborate on his site, so I need to know how to do that.

I think you're getting confused here...

When WPyogi asked if you'd be uisng it on your local comptuer, they should ask more if you are going to be updating a seperate installation from your own PC, and I thik that you've thought that you are using your PC to do the updating.

You do not need to install anything. All you need is the login URL and your username and password. There's nothing more to install and no need to copy anything. You'll just be working on their site.

Remember that WordPress is not a "program" in the standard way that you're used to with things like Word. It's a website (talking in the simplest terms), so all you need to do to access it is open the site in your browser.

Thank you so much michael! Yes, all I want to do is work on the site on my computer. I have the login, etc.
