Support » Fixing WordPress » Add Widget to Header

  • I am trying to add a widget area to the header of my page.

    I have looked around, but every bit of code I have found does not work with my theme. Can anyone direct me how I can do this?

    Here is my functions.php file

    if ( function_exists('register_sidebars') )
    add_filter('comments_template', 'legacy_comments');
    function legacy_comments($file) {
    	if(!function_exists('wp_list_comments')) : // WP 2.7-only check
    		$file = TEMPLATEPATH . '/legacy.comments.php';
    	return $file;

    Here is my header.php

    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "">
    <html xmlns="">
    <head profile="">
    	<title><?php bloginfo('name'); ?><?php wp_title(); ?></title>
    	<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="<?php bloginfo('html_type'); ?>; charset=<?php bloginfo('charset'); ?>" />
    	<meta name="generator" content="Bluefish 1.0.7"/> <!-- leave this for stats please -->
    	<link rel="stylesheet" href="<?php bloginfo('stylesheet_url'); ?>" type="text/css" media="screen" />
    	<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="<?php bloginfo('name'); ?> RSS Feed" href="<?php bloginfo('rss2_url'); ?>" />
    	<link rel="alternate" type="text/xml" title="RSS .92" href="<?php bloginfo('rss_url'); ?>" />
    	<link rel="alternate" type="application/atom+xml" title="Atom 0.3" href="<?php bloginfo('atom_url'); ?>" />
    	<link rel="pingback" href="<?php bloginfo('pingback_url'); ?>" />
    	<?php wp_get_archives('type=monthly&format=link'); ?>
    	<?php //comments_popup_script(); // off by default ?>
    	<?php if ( is_singular() ) wp_enqueue_script( 'comment-reply' ); ?>
    	<?php wp_head(); ?>
    <body><div id="wrapper">
    <div id="main_content">
    <div id="header">
    <h1><a href="<?php bloginfo('url'); ?>"><?php bloginfo('name'); ?></a></h1>
    <div class="description"><?php bloginfo('description'); ?></div>

    I’m sorry but as you appear to be using a commercially supported theme, you need to seek support from the theme’s developers – paid or otherwise. We only support themes downloaded from here.

    I downloaded it from

    Anyone willing to assist?

    This theme hasn’t been updated in over 2 years. It may no longer be maintained or supported and may have compatibility issues when used with more recent versions of WordPress.

    That would explain why I wasn’t able to find it via a search. Since it’s unlikely that the theme’s author will help now, I can only suggest that you have a look at
