[Resolved] Add sidebar to child
I have made a child-theme modification of MH Magazine lite. I am trying to add a sidebar, so that on every page on the site I have two sidebars, one on the left of the content, one on the right of the content. The original theme has only the one sidebar which you can place on either side. I have the original sidebar placed on the left.
So far I have successfully registered my right sidebar, and I believe I have followed the necessary steps to call the sidebar as it does appear in the widgets area of my dashboard/administrative pages. However, it does not appear on the site itself. I even have the room for it, having added
.col-3-3in the columns section of the child theme’s stylesheet, as well as calling that column in my templates.
So what exactly am I doing wrong? Is there some setting I overlooked that only allows one sidebar to be present at a time? Have I not properly told my templates to include
I have been working on this for a very long time and I have tried everything I could think of, so I would greatly appreciate help on this.
what you want to do requires quite a lot of coding. You will have to modify several files to make the sidebar appear on all pages and you’ll also need to recode the columns / grid and keep gutters / margins in mind.
.col-3-3does not exist. Actually
.col-1-3means a third of the site and
.col-2-3two third. You can find these classes in style.css
I don’t know how experienced you are in coding, but as I said, there is quite a lot to change if you want to make this work properly.
If you have trouble with the modifications, you can always upgrade to the premium version of the theme. There is an option included to activate a second sidebar. If you activate it, the site width will automatically increase to 1300px and of course the premium version is fully responsive. You can read more about the premium version here: http://www.mhthemes.com/themes/mh/magazine/
I wish you a nice evening.
