Add post to portfolio

I recently purchased a template from templatemonster.com, and it came with a portfolio page. I’m trying to create a website which is mainly based on reviews and news, so the portfolio page layout would be perfect for displaying the reviews in an organized fashion.

I think I’ve finally wrapped my head around the fact that the portfolio is only for pages and not posts, and the differences between the two. Which brings me to my question. Is there any way I can have the portfolio page show the posts that I somehow mark as a review either through category or tags?

I’ve been researching this for a while now (plugins and all) and I can’t seem to find a way to get this working… Any help would be greatly appreciated.
