Add polylines to map with JavaScript instead of shortcodes?

I am creating a map for a client who is writing about an old railroad line that no longer exists. I am using polylines to plot the path on the map. When the tracks turn an additional line is required and so is an additional shortcode. When done, I could have 70 or 100 shortcodes to create the path. There must be a more efficient way to do this.

Is there a way to add the polylines using javascript, either placed in a custom template or via a js file? If so, can you give me an example of how to accomplish this?
