    If I write a new widget in folder `widgets/`, is it going to be 
   overwrite by the next update ?

 * WordPress update removes all files.
    If you want to add a new widget, then I 
   advise to write a simple extension plugin that registers the widget. See example
   template in [this post](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/extension-plugins-for-the-plugin-using-hooks).
