My box is running FreeBSD.
I have this problem also. I can’t search for plugins through the WordPress backend.
I have a clean install of 2.7.1 and it was working fine until a few minutes ago… 🙁

So far it seems like it is a bug from this release.
Still if anyone finds more info please let us know.
