• I’ve just upgraded to WP3.5 and “Add Media” button on Edit Post screen stopped working.

I can upload and edit pictures in my Media Library and attached them to posts. However I have no way of actually placing any pictures within my post.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

For anyone who installed 3.5 this advice (deactivating, switching themes, resetting plugins, re-uploading folders) is way too much for WordPress to ask of its customers. People should just avoid upgrading to 3.5 period. It is not worth the loss of functionality at all. Word to the wise. Keep your older version of WordPress and do not upgrade to 3.5 at all.

is way too much for WordPress to ask of its customers

Why? You installed the plugins & themes. Deactiving them is no more difficult. and WordPress is free software. It does not have “customers”.

People should just avoid upgrading to 3.5 period.

By all means… if you want to open your site(s) up to a real risk of being hacked. Rule number one when when securing your site is to always keep WordPress up to date. If you cannot manage this yourself, perhaps you need to consider hiring someone to carry out the work for you.

And next time, please remember that it is impolite to interrupt another poster’s ongoing thread with (non-helpful) comment of your own and it causes significant problems for the forum’s volunteers. Please post your own topics.

    Esmi,

I think you are asking me to shut down my website while I’m troubleshooting the WP3.5

I appreciate your answer and suggestions, but I didn’t sign-up for beta testing of WP3.5. Now I’m finding myself spending the morning looking for a problem that’s definitely not caused by me.

Please don’t blast mdesouza. In my view your response was not any more helpful than his.

Welcome to WordPress Troubleshooting 101 – a process of elimination deliberately designed to locate the root cause as quickly as possible by first removing the most obvious and common culprits. I’ve just upgraded 13 sites without the slightest problem, so whatever this is, it’s specific to your site/install.

If you want to find out what the problem is and fix it, you need to start troubleshooting.

    Theme Diva,

I think I’ve just wrote that I’m spending my morning working on it.

My mistake – I was expecting a constructive support from a moderator on this forum.

I was having the same problem and deleted out old plugins we were not using AND deactivated some to see what was causing the problem. Bingo, found the culprit plugin, deactivated it, and media feature works like a charm now.

Now that I can get access to the new Gallery, I am super happy as it is exactly the functionality I was looking for in that feature (and perfect timing for a post I have coming out tomorrow).

What was the pluging that was causing the problem?

I was using Photo Dropper, which can insert stock photos into your posts.

I was expecting a constructive support from a moderator on this forum.

Such as? There is no magic bullet. You have to start by narrowing sown the field of investigation. as I said, basic WordPress troubleshooting. If you cannot work with us, then we cannot help you.

    Theme Diva & Forum Moderator,

If you only read my previous post you would know that I’m already doing this.

There is absolutely no need to attack anybody here. It only adds an insult to the injury

    I’m already doing this

Doing what? Have to carried out all of the steps I suggested above yet? If so, can see see the site?

    Not: “I’ve done it”

I went through all the steps – no improvement.

    Can you do these steps:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

And then let us know when you’ve done them?

I just looked at your site and you’re currently running Theme Name: Gazeta brazy v21 as well as a number of plugins.

As Esmi has already pointed out a) this is only temporary step and b) it could help you identify where your problem is.

Repeating what Esmi already stated: If you cannot work with us, then we cannot help you.
