You can add a link to your full calendar URL on each event, then the events on mini-calendar will have links. If you just want one link to the full calendar below the mini calendar you could add a text widget containing the link.

Do I do my own short codes for that ie…. something like

The documentation really doesn’t show what a code looks like WITH the arguments.
The shortcode would be
[spiffy-calendar cat_list="2"]

FYI, you can use the shortcode generator, the blue grid pattern just above the edit window in the classic editor. This is a popup window that asks questions and generates the correct shortcode.
If you use Gutenberg, there is a block that generates the calendar code for you.
