Add Left Sidebar

Hi all,

WordPress newbie/CSS Newbie here. We are using the Basic Simplicity theme (http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/basic-simplicity). We would like to add a widget enabled sidebar to the lefthand side of the blog, that matches the one on the righthand side. I’ve been searching, but I can’t find anywhere that explains EVERYTHING that would need to happen, step by step.
