Add extra user fields only to particular roles

    Hi,

    I am hoping some one can help me. I have been looking at the various different options for user management in wordpress. What I really need is to be able to have two different sets of user profile fields. One for the “Author” and “admin” roles. And another for the subscriber role.

    I know it is easy to add extra fields using something like WP extra fields or Cimy Etra User Fields or something but this seems to add the extra fields to ALL users. This is not really very useful as you then can have required fields that make no sense in some roles.

    I am not opposed to either purchasing a paid for plugin that achieves this, or doing the work in a custom plugin with php. I just don’t know here to start and all my googling seems to lead me in circles.

    Has anyone else added extra user fields to only certain user roles? Is it possible?

    This plugin will let you make new roles you could then customize, if doing something like that might work for you:

    Edit: I have just realized that would still not help you do what you are hoping to do.

    I just found one plugin claiming “Capabilities could be assigned on per user basis.”

    Don’t worry I am just going to use Buddy Press and use that to add extra profile fields that appear to be separate to the main user fields. I think this is the only tenable solution besides writing a custom plugin to allow for filter to only add extra user fields to certain users based on their role.

    This would probably be a very useful feature to be added to cimy extra user fields not to be a separate plugin itself. Seems like you would almost have just allowed for this feature in any extra user field plugin. But I guess they didn’t.
