Support » Plugin: TablePress » Add an automatic comma for thousands values

    Hello!
To upload values on tablepress I use the great “Import” function to import my excel tables. One problem in which I’m incurring is that when I upload thousands values, tablepress doesn’t recognize the comma “,” but only the “.” to separate decimal values.

I don’t know if there’s some option that I need to activate to solve this but is it possible to add a simple feature that automatically recognize thousands values and add a comma?

    Thanks for your support.
    Regards,

    Mauro

    Hi Mauro,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

Are you refering to the sorting of a table that has thousand separators? Because this is not really related to the import, actually. That will import the data in the same way as it is in the file that you import.

Now, the good news is that the upcoming TablePress 1.5 will contain an updated version of the DataTables JS sorting library. And that comes with better support for numbers that have decimal/thousand separators.
I therefore suggest that you try out the TablePress 1.5-beta version from http://tablepress.org/upcoming-tablepress-1-5/ With that, using numbers with thousand separators should not be a problem.
(There’s however no feature in TablePress that allows to automatically add a separator. The separator would have to be added to the data before the import.)

    Tobias

    Hello Tobias,
when will be officially available the update? Because I’ve no test website and I’m online with my site. In any case, thanks for your reply 🙂

    Hi Mauro,

I’ll probably release TablePress 1.5 at the end of the month. There won’t be any real changes to the beta though, as I have not received any error reports from test users so far.
If you are worried, just create a backup of the tables first, by exporting them to the JSON format.

    Hello Tobias,
    thanks for your great support.
Just one more thing…is there a way to personalize the color of negative/positive values?
To be more clear, I would like to automatically assign a red color to negative values. If this future is not integrated in the plugin, do you think it could be interesting to introduce it?
    Thanks.

    Hi Mauro,

good to hear that this helped!

Regarding the coloring of negative/positive values: No, sorry, I don’t have an existing solution for that, and I don’t have plans to add this to the plugin, as this is not really something that the majority of users would use, in my opinion.
Something like this should however be possible with some custom code in a small TablePress Extension. For example, the tablepress_cell_css_class could be used to check if a value is negative/positive and then add an extra CSS class to the cell.

    Tobias

    Hello Tobias,
sorry for the late reply but I was a little bit busy with my job during this week.
Going back on the tablepress extension, are you thinking to develop it or it was an idea for a far future? 😀
In any case, thanks again for your great support.

    Hi Mauro,

no, sorry, I don’t have plans to develop this at the moment, as I’m just too busy. This would simply be too much for free support, I hope you understand.

    Regards,
    Tobias
