Add a new relation to category/archive links

I’d like to add some rel properties to the Category and Archives readouts in my sidebar, but there’s no easy way of doing so. I’ve followed the trail to wp-includes/links.php, but going any further is beyond my meagre PHP skills. I’d appreciate some guidance. 🙂
