Thanks for your effort! Unfortunately, I cannot get AI to work.

I am using a subdomain for my images – it directs to a folder within my wordpress installation. When I activate the plugin no images are shown at all – all dead links. But when I am testing with a local installation it works just fine.

So, does AI work with a subdomain? What folders do I have to specify in the plugin?

Would be great to get any suggestions!

    Kind regards, Joerg

Hello there, thank yoo for testing out the plugin!

Well, the plugin works with subdomains (ie my.site.com) and subfolders (site.com/folder). However it does not work with a CDN or a Varnish installation because then it the job of the Varnish or the CDN to serve the images! Also it cannot work when the /wp-content folder has been moved outside the WordPress installation.

Are any of the above your case, perhaps?

If not, then could you please send me the result of the Print debug and Print diagnostics buttons of the plugin settings page? Also, if you can reveal it, could you send me the link to your website?

    Hello, again,

According to my tests the Adaptive Images plugin works well with subdomains. However, should you encounter any problems in the future, do open a new ticket or simply this one!

    Cheers,

    Hello Takis,

I tried to do use the plugin with a subdomain and also main domain, and would like to have a set up in watched directories like:

    wp-content/uploads
    wp-content/themes
    sub.mydomain.com/wp-content

so it would look in three directories, but I cannot figure out a way to achieve the subdomain one, once saving, the dot will disappear and it will be as:
submydomain.com/wp-content (notice the dot has vanished)
Can you figure out a way to allow the directories of subdomain of the main domain to be watched as well?

    Hello, Kenny,

I am afraid I did not explain the situation correctly in my first answer. The plugin may work in a subdomain, but the whole WordPress installation has to be in that subdomain. In the cases where the WordPress installation is in a different domain or subdomain than the images, the plugin is not able to handle the images at all, and so it practically does not function at all. It justs sits there! In these setups you or your host usually has another proxy server that handles images and probably other static assets like Javascript and CSS files.

If this is your setup, then I believe it is impossible to utilize the plugin because the requests for images never even reach your actual WordPress installation! We could think of a scenario where one might have two different WordPress installations, one for the content and one for the images, but this would be a not really viable solution and I do not recommend it.

    Have I got things, right?

    Cheers,
    Takis
