How about adding an feature which allows the plugin to be activated only when specific users log in. It would be immensely helpful when testing new plugins functionality and compatibility without impacting other users.

That isn't possible since the plugin that does the disabling is loaded before the user functionality is.

Ok, I was actually thinking that through wrong. While I can't have a plugin active and only have it enabled for a specific user I might be able to have a plugin inactive and only enable it for a specific user. I will try to get this implemented. We'll see how it works. I'll let you know when I have a version ready for testing or if it won't work.

Thanks for taking the time for looking into implementing this. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

So here is the problem I've run into and I suspect this has something to do with why plugin test drive isn't being developed anymore. Some plugins have to make database changes in order to run. For instance plugin organizer creates 3 database tables and adds rows to the options table. This is making potentially dangerous changes to your database and will still impact other visitors if the plugin causes problems. Even though the plugin is not truly enabled its database changes have been made and will not be undone after the test run.
