I uploaded a WP Theme (Revolution Magazine) to my server no problem. The next step was to “activate the plugins in the plugins folder.” I am lost on this. I am using SmartFTP and can see the plugin folder on the server and it seems populated with lots of plugins.

Are these not being activated, the reason, the theme is not displaying as a choice for me to select??

Any other thoughts on why the theme is not available to me to switch to as my default?

The installation structure seems to be complete and in order.

Any help would be much appreciated.

  • You seem to be confusing themes and plugins – not the same thing.
You activate a theme by uploading it to the folder WP-CONTENT > THEMES then going to the dashboard and selecting PRESENTATION > THEMES and then selecting the theme you want. If it isn’t there to be selected it means you uploaded it to the wrong directory.

You activate a plugin by uploading it to WP-CONTENT > PLUGINS and you activate it by going to the WP dashboard and selecting PLUGINS then clicking on the ACTIVATE link for the plugin in question.

I’ve got it figured out. I had uploaded the plugins zipped. Once I corrected this, it all works as advertised!

    Thanks obscure!
