Activate Plugin & create page with dynamic content (2 posts)

I am looking for some direction in writing my first plugin. I would like for it to be similar to a shopping cart in that it has an Availability list (yet, it will not have the purchase features).

My first step in what I want to do is be able to activate the plugin, and then it creates a Page automatically that users can click on. When they click on it, it brings them to a page that is dynamically generated - Not just a standard HTML page that I have to modify when I want to change something.

I'm just trying right now to figure out how to activate the plugin and the Page is automatically created.

    Thanks for the help :)

I'm fairly new to the WordPress API myself. But I think you might need to look at a filter hook. So for the page, you write the page to the database and add a text bracket to it: "[Shopping_Cart]". Then you run a filter that calls a function that runs through the content of that page and generates everything that needs to be generated when it finds the "[Shopping_Cart]" tag. For more info, check out WordPress' own intro to filters and how to create database tables. Best of luck with your plugin.
