Seeing a large number of past-due actions in Action Scheduler is usually an indication that scheduled tasks on the site are not being processed as expected.
To help us narrow this down, could you please confirm the following:
- Is WP-Cron enabled on your site?
- Are there any server-level cron jobs configured to trigger wp-cron.php?
- Have there been any recent changes to caching, security, or performance plugins?
In the meantime, please also check under Tools > Scheduled Actions to see if the pending actions are related to any specific plugin or task type.
Once we have this info, we can guide you further.

Thanks for sharing the screenshots and the responses. From what I’m seeing, something on the site is preventing scheduled actions from running properly. Several tasks from WooPayments, Stripe, and core WooCommerce are sitting in Pending even though their scheduled times are already in the past, which is why they’re showing up as past‑due.
This usually happens when:
- WP‑Cron isn’t being triggered reliably
- A server‑level cron job (the real cron) isn’t set up
- A security or caching layer is blocking
wp-cron.phpfrom firing - A fatal error occurs when Action Scheduler tries to run tasks
Try to manually run those action and see if that solves it.
I don’t knnow – should I ask my host?
Yes. Also confirm whether anything on the server (security, firewall, caching, or loopback restrictions) might be blocking WordPress cron from running?

From the report, WP-Cron is enabled, and there are pending Action Scheduler tasks showing dates in the future of 2026, which appears to be incorrect and could be indicative of a scheduling or time-related conflict.
Here are a few suggestions to move forward:
- I see you have Defender Pro, SmartCrawl Pro and WP Engine MU cache. Temporarily disable the first two.
- In WP Engine, if they offer a way to bypass cache or put the site in a “no cache” mode for a short time, ask them to do that while you test.
- Then try running a pending action again from Tools → Scheduled Actions. If actions suddenly start processing, we’ve likely found the culprit (or at least a major contributor).
- Go to WooCommerce → Status → Logs and see if there are any recent entries related to Stripe, WooCommerce or WooPayments. If you spot anything that looks like a fatal error, you can copy just that snippet (not the whole log) into https://pastebin.com.

Here’s what WPEngine suggests:
- Enable WP Engine Alternate Cron in your environment’s Utilities section.
- Use a plugin like WP Crontrol to view and manage scheduled tasks.
- Check your site’s access logs for wp-cron.php errors (look for 502 errors).
- If you use password protection or custom authentication, it may block cron jobs.
I enabled WP Engine Alternat Cron. It may have worked. There aren’r any 502 errors

Thanks for the update! Glad to hear that enabling WP Engine Alternate Cron seems to have helped and that you’re no longer seeing 502 errors. Keep an eye on it over the next few days to make sure everything continues running smoothly.
Also, Action Scheduler shows a relatively small number of Pending actions now (26 pending, 9 past‑due) and some dates drifted into the future, which usually points to either time/scheduling issues or cron not being triggered reliably for a period of time.
I would suggest running the past-due actions manually to see if the number of pending actions increases in the future. Currently, everything seems to be working fine.Let us know if you still face any issues.
