I have searched the forum for this exact minor glitch and could not find it, however I found a similar issue recently for SPF records. I report this here, but please note this is more a bother than a blocking issue.

In a nutshell, I have established the connection between WP mail SMTP and a google account (on a G suite account). I then spent quite a bit of time RTFM to ensure the mail is 100% kosher re SPF/DKIM/DMARC.

Bottomline: the mail ths is sent by WP mail SMTP is 100% perfect re SPF/DKIM/DMARC (based on mail-tester.com and an mx host administered by true internet dinosaurs). So thanks, the integration works like a charm!

… however the “test email” feature of WP mail SMTP still tells me:

Action Needed: It doesn’t look like the DKIM record required by Google has been added to your domain

which is, in fact, inaccurate. This could have other people scratching their heads, so maybe this ought to be fixed?

[Afterthought] The reason why this may be the case is possible related to the fact that the DNS text key under which the DKIM public key is made available is not the “default” one from google, and was customized to c2b._domainkey. This is possible in G suite, however this maybe not be the most mainstream set up: the bother might thus be self-inflicted.

    Hi @ataypamart

Thank you for sharing this with us. I have informed our devs about this so that we can look into it further and attempt to recreate the issue.

Based on your description so far, it certainly sounds like a false positive.

    Hi @ataypamart

As a follow-up to my previous message, our devs confirmed that as you mentioned, you are using a custom DKIM selector, so we are unable to detect the Google DKIM record. We can only detect records with a default selector.

So in this case, you can ignore the false positive.

Ok thanks for the follow up, so self-inflicted it is.

If your developers have time to lose, it is theoretically possible to check if there is a DNS text record in the domain with *._domainkey key instead of google._domainkey or whatever google choses, and assume the user knows what s/he is doing :-). The _domainkey is required by DKIM so this is a “reasonable” bet.

Alternatively you could integrate mail-tester.com which I found very useful as a casual user (I recognize that I may sound like I am selling their service, i assure you I have no relationship whatsoever with them apart from living in the same country apparently).

    Anyway thanks for the help.

    Hi @ataypamart

Thank you for getting back to us and for sharing your idea 🙂

I’ll share this with our devs so we can consider it for the future.

    Have a great week 🙂
