Support » Plugin: Testimonials Widget » Accessibility

  • When using a screen reader to read a webpage, this plugin, with the testimonial slider, takes focus with each slide and makes the screen very difficult to read. Do you have plans to make the plugin friendlier for those with disabilities?

@wputler I have never thought about it as no one complaint yet. Thanks for raising this concern and we will definitely look into this. BTW any specific suggestion to fix this issue or the steps?

I don’t think there’s a way to detect if a screen reader is reading the page – not like you can with a browser. So maybe the option for autoplay shouldn’t be available?

The guidance on how to meet accessibility guidelines is still in development: https://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/Drafts/tutorials/sliders/controls/ But lawsuits are already being brought and the findings are that websites need to be accessible, so this will be something that people will be looking for sooner rather than later.

I’m still learning how to use screen readers myself to test sites – it’s much more complicated than it should be.
