Support » Plugin: Basic Google Maps Placemarks » Access to a Google Maps API key becomes paid?

  • hello,
I use this plugin for a few years, no problem. For that, I created an API key.
Now Google Maps Platform is sending me a message in order to say that accounts for API Google Maps are paying off (they need billing). It seems that I would be entitled to a credit of $200 monthly, but I must give my credit card number.
Is this a scam? Has anyone heard about this?

yes it is true. It seems like for simple map embed is still free. But this plugin make use of api to create dynamics maps (I think). These kind of maps are charged. Google gives a credit of 200 dollars monthly that covers 28500 api requests. This should be enough for the majority of small-medium websites. Getting an api key will oblige giving credit card credentials even without future charges. There is time until 16th of July.
