Support » Fixing WordPress » About to tidy directory structure – suggestions ?

  • Hi Im about to tidy my web directories after my experiments.
Wordpress currently lives in a subdir from the main domian eg http://www.web.com/wordpress/ with all its files under it.
1/ can I safely rename the wordpress folder to something like “wp” ?
2/ The mile long theme names, can these be abrieviated and the theme manager pick them up still?
3/ If I rename all this whats the best way to place a “catchall” tempory redirect for any previously index pages?
I already use an index.php in the root to point directly to /wordpress/ on opening the website, oh – the site is : http://www.im-travel.net/wordpress/
    Thanks for your answers.

    1. Yes. But…
    – In Options, rename those 2 urls first
    – then actually rename them
    – then login. Do it the wrong way round and breakage happens

    2. Yes, but do NOT rename an active theme.

    3. Can’t help there – sorry !

Thanks Podz – appreciate the response – clear.
