About page URL change won’t save

  • Hello. I was helping a friend merge two WordPress blogs by importing one into the other. When I did this it created two “about us” pages. I deleted the old one and the new one’s URL is …/about-2/. I went in to edit the page URL. I changed it to …/about/ but when i click the blue “update” button it changes the URL back to /about-2/. I’ve never had WordPress do this with permalinks on posts. Is there a reason why it’s doing this with pages?

  • you have to save the permalink 1st – in the same section “change permalinks”
    then save the page

    Thanks for your response.

I went into the edit page then clicked the “edit” button next to the permalink, made the change, then clicked the “ok” button next to the permalink. It saved it correctly. But then when I click the “update” button, the page refreshes, the permalink has reverted back and at the top of the page it says “Page updated. View page” And ‘view page’ has the old URL. Apparently something else is going on and I’m just going to leave it since it’s really a matter of aesthetics.

    Thanks again.

    Hi,
I’m having the same issue with my page URL. I recently changed the theme of my blog, and recreated a page using the same page name as the old theme. The changes I make to the “change permalink” switches back as soon as I hit update.
    HELP!

There’s no real other way of doing this besides copying the information from the about page, paste it in a notepad on your desktop and trash the existing.

After doing this, go to your trash in your wordpress admin page and empty it as it remembers how many pages you have that are the same, this reflects the number -2 at the end of URL.

Last but not least, re-create your about page and paste the info in there and you’re done. Hope this helps.
