I have a question about the newest (and future) releases of WP.

Does each upgrade build on the previous version? In other words, will I need to install 2.0.3 in order for 2.0.4 to function properly? And the same for 2.0.4 and 2.1? Or can I just wait for the 2.1 release and install then when it is ready?

    I am currently using 2.0.2

    Thanks!

  • i think u can still upgrade from b2 to wp latest 😀

I would recommend upgrading to 2.0.4 as there are 50+ bug fixes, security fixes and performance tweaks.

The upgrade process is really easy as long as you haven’t messed with core word press files.

Each release is independant of each other, in that you can use it to upgrade or for a new install.

That being said, upgrade. If for nothing else, to stay ahead of any bugs or vulnerabilities. Be responsible and practice safe hex.

You can go directly from 2.0.2 to 2.0.4 – but I hesitate to say this will be true for upgrading to 2.1….

Does anyone have an idea of when 2.1 will be available? I just updated to 2.0.4, and if 2.1 will be out within the next 3-4 months then I probably won’t go crazy with customizations.

I’m curious to as to the joyous due date for 2.1 since I have three blogs I would like to port over. If it is soon I’ll wait…

There is no set date on 2.1, as you can see here:
    http://trac.wordpress.org/roadmap

There is many, many “active” tickets still open.. 2.1 is for testing purposes only..and the more people to help squash those 200 and some “bugs”, “active/open” tickets..the better.. =)

2.0.4 is the latest version now. *Only* grab 2.1 alpha2 if you’re going to help test it, and squash bugs.. 😉 Also, 2.1 alpha2, *should not* be used on a “live” blog/site, even though..*some* people do it, however..those people know what they are doing with it though… 😉

And an upgrade will be need for the 2.0.4 to 2.1, there was a number of database changes, if I remember right.. path changes for files/folders and so forth..

So from the roadmap it looks like there will be a 2.0.5? I suppose 2.1 is still fairly far off then…

From 1.2.2.2 there was a jump to 1.5 (while waiting for 1.3, LOL)
    You never know…

2.0.4 and 2.0.5 were just back ports of important stuff from 2.1. It’s not like 2.1 was put on hold to work on v2.0.x. 😉
