Abnormally small font with some browsers

  • WP blog (1.5.1.3)
    Theme: Connections (http://www.vanillamist.com/blog/)

I just detected that some computers (I’d like to think that only a small portion of them) load my blog with abnorally small fonts on all headers, headlines, sidebar content, and comments. They are way too small to be read. The only text that keeps normal size belongs to post bodies.

First time I saw it I assumed it was due to a gross misconfiguration of the browser on that computer, but I’m now starting to think that it may happen systematically to visitors using specific browsers (or browser versions) or settings. Every time it was Internet Explorer, typically older than 6.0.

Is this a known issue? I suppose it’s because Connections uses variable size fonts. But, how do I fix this?

  • Set your base font-size as 1em and that should take care of the majority of browsers.

I need more help that that, if possible.

Can anyone tell me what specific changes are required in the following template in order to prevent this font problem from happening with ALL browsers?

    TIA

You might try contacting the theme author…. and you might try setting the font size to 100.01% on the body tag. You will also have to dig through the CSS to find what percentages or sizes are set for the problematic areas, and perhaps make them larger.

In general, on a PC, Firefox and Opera will display fonts smaller than does IE. I have no info on macs, and I’ve never used the theme, so I can’t give you any further help.
