Support » Plugin: Slimstat Analytics » Ability to see user agents

I can’t seem to find the option to see the user-agents or other detailed data about the visitors.

One of the key reasons for having this plugin installed is to be able to gather data that helps in troubleshooting any issues the users have reported on the site, but currently the plugin doesn’t provide much that helps. I can see which pages have been loaded from a certain IP or by a certain user and in which order. At the top of this list I can see their browser (without the version) and their OS (without the version) and that’s pretty much it.

There should be a button for revealing further information; namely, the user agent. Other information such as screen resolutions would come in handy as well, but the user agent we have been needing in many cases already. It makes for a rather tedious user support cycle for to request a screenshot from to be able to track for example possible browser CSS rendering bugs on different mobile platforms and browsers.

Being able to see user’s user agents on SlimStat would be a tremendous help in improving the compatibility of sites.

You make a very good point, indeed. The ‘new’ Right Now panel obviously needs to grow, and offer more detailed information, when needed. Let me point out, though, that the version of the browser is available in the tooltip when you hover the browser’s icon, under Right Now, and the same applies to the OS.

In order to save precious space, the full USER AGENT string is discarded, after the analysis is complete. I’m planning to add a series of WordPress ‘hooks’ to the code, which will soon allow you to extend WP SlimStat (by writing your own child plugin) and retain that information in a separate table, if you like.

As for the screen resolution, that can be easily added to the Right Now screen, so you will find it there when the next version is released.
