Ability to Post pages and posts gone after migrating

I recently moved my part developed site from a subdomain to the root domain. In the original sub domain I am still able to start new posts and pages but in the new site on the root domain in the back end I can edit current pages but I can’t make any new pages or posts. I have lost access to the add page button in the menu system it just shows the “All Pages” options. I havent added any new plugins or changed any settings as far as I can tell. Can anyone suggest a way I can resolve this as I am unable to develop the site further.
