  • Looking at this support forum it looks like this plugin is abandoned. Is it? Is there an alternative?

  • at the moment it still works but security plugins suggest to replace the plugin. i’m also looking for an alternative!

    Did anyone find a maintained alternative they are happy with? I am looking as well and will post if I find anything.

    switched to the all in one soulution from wordfence. this also include a notification about updates

    Yes – it appears to be abandoned, unfortunately. It doesn’t work any more with most of my sites. I’ve been using Mail on Update – which works on most sites. It hasn’t been updated in a year now so I don’t know if it will be updated eventually or abandoned too. Wordfence, while good, is a lot more than a plugin update notifier! If you opt to use it, disable Live Traffic Logging, or you may find your site slows down considerably.

    @paddy-duncan switched from ithemes security to wordfence so with the switch to wordfence i have (with the notifier) 2 functions in one plugin. live traffic is already deactivated on all sites. but thanks for the reminder.

    Please help me to move abandoned Tal.ki Forum to any new one. Why I never got any notifications about the issue till I push SSL to add to my site and the forum content not works???

    Content saved.

    Companion Auto Updater is a handy alternative. You can set it to email you when an update is available if you don’t want your plugins to auto-update. I have it email me for some of the more “breakable” plugins and just go ahead auto-update the simpler ones.

    I’m considering forking this and resurrecting it. Does anyone have the original authors contact details?

    This plugin is still the best one, in my experience. And many articles, which reference it, still exist in search results when searching for “wordpress updates email notification”

    This plugin is fairly lightweight (single file), and the e-mail messages aren’t bloated with extra formatting or branding.

    I use it with SMTP Mailer plugin.

    If you’re using WP_DEBUG, you will get PHP Notice: screen_icon is deprecated since 3.8.0 with no alternative available.

    The fix for this is to simply hack the plugin yourself by removing the line:
    <?php screen_icon(); ?>
    from line 556 in wp-updates-notifier.php file.
