A Two Column Theme w/Text Widgets Before Posts

Hello,

I am new here, as you can probably tell, and I am hoping to find some help about a theme that I have in mind. I am looking to implement a theme to my site that is two columns. I would like to have a left sidebar and a main content area. In the main content area, I would like to know if there is any way to put a couple of text widget, or anything really, before the actual posts. So, there would be an editable section of static content above where the actual posts would go. I hope that made some sort of sense. Here is a crude example of what I am trying to describe:
