I’m transferring my WordPress blog from one host to another, but I believe I acted too quickly. I used the Cpanel feature to make a complete backup of everything I have on the server. I thought it would be as easy as copying all of WordPress files to the new server. This didn’t work, though. I still have the generic, “hello world post as the only thing posted. It did restore my old template, however, which is a start. I guess my question is where is my content saved if it’s not in the files that are come with WordPress? Since I made a complete backup of the server, I hope that I can still restore my 300+ posts. I have searched around and found a lot of topics about importing and exporting but nothing specifically to my problem.

It’s all in the database … did you export that ?

No, I did not export the database. Is it too late to do so? The content is deleted from the server but I do have all the content on my desktop. I guess I can also upload it back to the server.

Contact your old host and see – do it NOW and ask if they have any database backups of your site.

I went a head an emailed my host, but I was able to find MySQL databases from when I made the backup. I don’t if that’s what you meant or not.

    You have a backup 🙂

Restoring that should put everything back in place:
