# A simple self-coded math comments protection ?

 * Hello,
 * For an unknown reason, certainly linked to my very old template (but I can’t 
   change my template, it is already heavily modded and tweaked to my use), I cannot
   install and make work any captcha and math-question comments protection. None
   of the plugins tested worked.
 * **I’m wondering how complicated it would be to write myself a VERY EASY math 
   comment protection and add its few code lines to my comments.php file.
    
   For 
   instance a field just above the text field, asking “Antispam protection, please
   reply : 1 + 4 =”, and next, a white field, in which you’d enter the result, “
   5”.
    It’s OK if it is always the same code and can’t be controlled from the other
   admin pages. In fact what I need is, simply, a php code that makes sure the reply
   is exactly the figure I want, period 🙂
 * I don’t care if some spam bots will manage to go through it because it isn’t 
   encrypted, at least I’ll get rid of most of my spammers, 40 spams per day is 
   becoming a hell ! Akismet doesn’t help, there is always two or three legitimate
   comments marked as spam in the lot, so I still have to manually check the comments.
 * Do you have an idea, if it is documented somewhere ?

 * my own blog uses a similar thing, and its self coded, not a plugin. I even direct
   people to another page if they dont manage to put in the right ‘answer’..
 * I dont know about it being documented anywhere, but its very simple to do if 
   you know a little PHP and are willing to crack open 2 files (one theme file and
   one core file).
