A question on themes generally , please advise.

We are looking for a 3 column theme, we like however this layout:

Is it relatively easy to “remove” a colum from a theme like that?

OR alternatively, is it easy to add a theme to a 2 column theme like say:

http://www.revolutiontwo.com/demo/lifestyle.html

Which is easy would you say ?

I just can’t find any decent 3 column themes out of the box.
