A Powerful Tool with Some Rough Edges

The Events Calendar is one of the best event plugins out there. Even the free version offers lots of features that cover almost everything a club or small organization might need. The support team is also very responsive — even for free users, which is a big plus.

There are, however, some weak spots. The Customizer integration is limited. In my theme (Kadence) I can normally set the featured image position globally, but with events I need to place it manually in each entry. The only alternative is to switch to the Classic Editor, but I prefer to stay with Gutenberg.

It would also help to have a modern Gutenberg block with sidebar options for formatting. Right now, there’s only a legacy block, and most design adjustments require custom CSS.

Despite these issues, The Events Calendar is still the top choice for managing events in WordPress. There is simply no other plugin that matches it in functionality.
