Support » Themes and Templates » A Page of Posts – Is this still the best way to do it?

I am trying to create a child theme for Thematic in the most logical way.
As part of my content structure, I need to be able to link a category to the navigation bar, eg. clicking ‘Projects’ in the navigation bar brings up all posts in the ‘project’ category.
I have found an example in the codex of this being done, but in an age of filter hooks and child themes (which I am VERY new to – this is my first) is this the right way to do it?
That’s one of the biggest things that confuses me about WordPress theme development – there are so many ways of doing something, it is hard to know how to select the right one! 🙂
That said, WordPress is still amazing, and I am looking forward to putting this site together!
For this particular theme, you might be better off reviewing http://themeshaper.com/thematic/guide/ and http://themeshaper.com/forums/ first.
I rest my case; so may ways of doing something! Apologies for posting up here, and thanks for the links.
No problem. I played around with Thematic about a year ago, so I know that it has quite a few of its own custom hooks & functions which you might find a little easier than coding a Page of Posts from scratch.
Yeah, coding from scratch really isn’t an option for me at the minute. I need to expand my knowledge of creating WordPress themes, fast!
