    Hi, during this weekend I recieved a lot of email about several sites, hosted on different servers in Italy, that were not loading.
    That was not true. They were all up!
    I am not blocking any of your IP’s or xmlrpc. Nothing is changed on those sites.

    Hi @flaviese

    Did the email specifically mention that your host is blocking our monitoring service? You may have received those emails for several reasons, the blocking being one of them. Other reasons could be that your site is responding slowly or intermittently, or that the server is not responding.

    Are you still receiving the emails? Let us know. For more information about downtime monitoring, please visit our support page here:

    Hi thankyou for the reply.

    We are talking about 3-4 servers on different farms. Sites/hosts do not block jetpack and from where I was able to test (different carriers and devices), while for jetpack they were down, they actually were performing quickly/as always.

    Here is an example of an email:

    ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

    Hi XXXXXXX,

    http://www.caravel.it did not load when we checked on Monday, January 28, 3:22 pm.

    Your site is responding intermittently, or extremely slowly. This can indicate an overloaded, under-powered, or misconfigured server. Your site is probably loading for some users, but not for everyone.

    If you continue seeing downtime, you should get in touch with your hosting provider for help. You will receive another alert when your site is online again.

    View your site’s activity to investigate when and perhaps why it went down.

    Read more about Monitor.

    /////////////////////////////////////////////////

    For Jetpack the site backed up after nearly 40 minutes:

    ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

    Hi XXXXXXX,

    Good news — your site http://www.caravel.it is now loading!

    Your site was down for approximately 39 mins, but is up again as of Monday, January 28, 4:02 pm.

    We will continue monitoring your site, and alert you if it goes down again.
    Why am I receiving this email?

    You are receiving this email because you have activated Jetpack Monitor on your site. If you need to contact support, please include this reference: [114343025/success].

    ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

    For me it never went down!

    We’re being blocked from accessing http://www.caravel.it/xmlrpc.php which Jetpack requires to function, and that’s probably what’s triggering the Monitor too.

    Unfortunately, blocking XML-RPC is not a great solution for fighting security risks. It’s akin to selling your car because you don’t want it to be stolen.

    Your site’s XML-RPC file is kind of like a communication gateway to your site. Jetpack, the WordPress Mobile Apps, and other plugins and services will use this file to communicate to your site. If this is blocked, you will have other issues pop-up down the road for the same reasons.

    If you are using any security plugins, please try connecting with those temporarily deactivated. If you don’t have any, or if that didn’t work, I would suggest contacting your hosting provider and asking them to unblock your site’s XML-RPC. The most popular hosting providers out there have managed to find other ways to protect their servers without having to hinder your site and your ability to use services with your WordPress.

    If they refuse to make any changes, and if you want to use apps and plugins like Jetpack, I’d suggest looking for a new host. We have some recommended hosting providers at https://jetpack.com/hosting/ and WordPress has some recommended hosting providers at https://wordpress.org/hosting/

    Since yesterday, without doing anything to those sites, no other message from jetpack monitor has arrived.

    We do not block completely xmlrpc. We use some rules onto htaccess similar to the one adopted by plugins like bulletproof, letting trusted sources to access. This is based normally to a series of known IP’s and I had never issues with Jetpack apart the last week end and yesterday. Probably jetpack monitor was arriving from other IP’S ?

    Hi Flavio,

    That could be causing this if you don’t have the correct IPs whitelisted, yes.

    You can find the full range of IPs that Jetpack currently uses here:
