A site I’m working on allows commenting on posts, but a couple of posts are missing the comment section. I have already tried going to the editor page but under SCREEN OPTIONS, there is no Discussion option to check/uncheck. Quick edit does not show Discussion options either. Two questions:
1. Is there a way to get the Discussion option back into SCREEN OPTIONS on the editor page?
2. Why are a few posts missing the comment section?
Thanks.

I found the answer myself. When you register a new custom post type in functions.php, “comments” must be added to list of what is supported. Without it, the custom post type does not allow comments by default; however, posts imported from another post type where comments were previously allowed are not affected.
