 * So, I’m trying to get my company to use wordpress for their ‘intranet’ site,
   but they are running MS-Sql which I understand wordpress will not work with.
   I currently have a sample wordpress on my personal hosting to demonstrate to
   them what it looks like, it’s capabilities, etc. Because MySQL is about $500
   they are not willing to invest solely to install WordPress to the companies servers.
   Are there other free solutions to this problem? Or is it possible that my public
   hosting can run a version of wordpress within a designated network and not allow
   access outside of it?
 * My hosting is from a third party that I pay for, so I only have admin capabilities
   and I’m a little short on my extended knowledge of networking.
 * Thank you for any resolution.

 * MySQL is not $500.00
 * MySQL **enterprise** costs money.
 * MySQL is free.

 * I’m sorry to have come off as stupid. This is what I originally believed. The
   IT head in my company suggested that there was no way of getting it except paying
   $500. I’ll pass on this information and thank you for helping me out.

 * The fact that he’s intentionally deceptive about this is a pretty serious matter
   in my opinion.
 * There’s no way he’s an IT guy, and doesn’t know MySQL is free, unless he finds
   it confusing to walk and breathe at the same time.
 * I wouldn’t put this forward as a case of him being wrong. I would ask why he’s
   intentionally blocking an almost ubiquitously embraced product.
 * IT people are allowed to build their little geek empires *far* too often. The
   workplace isn’t a chapter of ‘[BOFH](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bastard_Operator_From_Hell)‘,
   and that needs to be made abundantly clear.
